Zonta encourages women to pursue education and supports scholarships, fellowships and awards for women and girls pursuing education and careers.
Z-Club Scholarship
Our Z=Clubs are sponsored by Zonta Clubs in their area. Z-Club members, young women in High School, are encouraged to serve their community, while Zonta Members provide career guidance and promote leadership qualities to them. We offer 3 Scholarships to Graduating Seniors of the Z-Club.
Louise Black Scholarship
This Scholarship is a memorial tribute to Louise Black, who was a former Zonta member and nurse whose life was ended tragically. During her career in Jackson County, and through her longtime employment with Singing River Hospital and Pascagoula Schools, she made a difference in the lives of many people. She was a proud Zontian, always busy and fulfilling her dream of service to the community and those in need. We proudly present 2 scholarships annually to 2 female students in the medical field attending MGCCC=Jackson County Campus.
Jean McCool Scholarship
This Scholarship is for any female student interested in pursuing coursework in early childhood development at MGCCC-Jackson County Campus. This Scholarship is a memorial tribute to the former Zonta member and educator, Jean McCool. As a very caring person, Jean's whole life was built on her firm belief in education. While helping so many, maybe hundreds of women, take charge of their lives, she is remembered as an inspiration to all women.
Ellen Wheeler Scholarships
Ellen Wheeler was born in Skagen, Denmark and immigrated to the U.S. in 1967. She spent the last 40 years of her life living on the Gulf Coast, raising her family and living life with a sincere passion, gentle heart and strong will. She was an active member of The Zonta Club of Pascagoula Area and Singing River Art Association where she cultivated the most amazing group of friends. Ellen was an Engineer all her working life, but after retirement, she pursued her passion for art. We have set up 2 funds to help students attending MGCCC- Jackson County Campus in this field.
